Objective: Dealing with changes and complexities inside and outside the organization requires the ability of organizations to create and reconfigure organizational capabilities. In this regard, strategic renewal, which seeks to coordinate and adapt internal and external capabilities, requires managers with new professional identities who are compatible with the new direction of the organization. The present study aimed to design a strategic renewal model based on the professional identity of managers of development organizations in Iran.
Methods: The research method is qualitative and based on data theory. The foundation is used to collect information from semi-structured interviews and analyze the data by Strauss-Corbin method. The sampling was done theoretically and using purposeful-judgmental and snowball techniques, based on which 22 interviews were conducted with former and current professors and managers of state-owned companies of Idro.
Results: The results of the analysis obtained from the interviews, during the open, axial and selective coding process, led to the presentation of a strategic modernization model based on the data processing theory of the foundation, including 6 categories and 40 concepts.
Conclusion: According to the strategic renewal model, the causal factors affecting strategic renewal in state-owned companies are "inefficient human resources", "competitors' superiority", "organizational inertia", "economic weakness", "lack of strong political relations", "lack of new technology" and " "Structural weakness", "confusion in production and product diversity", "centralism", "budget and cost gap", "competitive environment" and "obsolete intellectual anchors of managers". Underlying conditions such as "governing administrative system", "governing culture", "organizational adaptability", intervening conditions such as "environmental dynamics", "fluctuation in the implementation of government programs", "organization size", "position" Stakeholders "," Managers' cognitive complexity "," Resistance to change "," Different capacity to absorb knowledge "," Governing bureaucratic system "," Managers' professional identity "," Managers' mental models "," Dynamic capabilities "Also strategies "Strengthening the capabilities of the organization", "Changing the mental models of managers", "Strategic agility", "Formulating macro-strategic policies", "Designing flexible organizational structures" and "Empowering human resources", "Customer analysis", "Competency development" "Professional change", "change in the direction of corporate governance" and "development of strategic communications" and the consequences of the creation of strategic renewal in state-owned companies include "growth and development of employees" and "growth and excellence of the organization". Aligning the strategic capabilities and resources of the organization with the environmental requirements leads to achieving competitive advantage and superiority among competing organizations. Organizations must examine the environment and activities of competing organizations and create new products, strategies, processes, and structures based on new interpretations. Renewal requires changing the mental models of managers in response to environmental changes. Leaders and managers of organizations are the main key to setting values and harmonizing the organization with environmental changes, by paving the way and strengthening creativity and innovation in managers, organizational learning and creating new infrastructure and advanced technology provides the ground for strategic renewal in the organization.
